A Detailed Overview
What
In the pilot round, participants will write an assessment about their chosen subject. The assessment is:
- 50 minutes long
- Out of 50 marks
-
- 25 marks for multiple-choice questions
- 25 marks for open-ended questions
-
- Based mainly on Pre-IB, MYP5, and beginner IB content – the tests may also include higher-level IB content
- Created by DYT organisers and confirmed by IB teachers
- Marked by IB teachers and DYT organisers
- Controlled, unbiased, and fair – any cheating in the pilot round will cause the perpetrator to be immediately disqualified
In the pilot round, participants will only compete against their own classmates, meaning that the competition in the pilot round is much slimmer than in the presentation round. All MYP5, Pre-IB, and IB students will compete amongst one another. A maximum of 5 participants per school can move onto the presentation round. These
5 participants will be announced on the 1st of November.
Just by participating in the pilot round, participants will earn a certificate indicating that they have participated in the tournament. This certificate contains the participant's name, mark in the pilot round, mark in the presentation round (if applicable), and rank in their school and overall (if applicable). All participants will get this certificate regardless of if they pass the assessment in the pilot round or not.
Where
Participants will write their assessment at their own school.
When
The assessments will be written sometime between Monday the 21st of October and Friday the 25th of October. In the case that schools have holidays during this time, they should email us (admin@international-dyt.org) to arrange alternative dates - these alternative dates must be before Monday the 21st of October.
Schools must choose a 70-minute window of time where participants will sit down and write the assessments - this 70-minute window of time can be during school hours, during a break, or after school. During this 70-minute window of time, the following must occur:
- Invigilators hand out tests and student codes (5 minutes but can be done beforehand)
- Participants arrive and sit down in their seats (5 minutes)
- Invigilators read out the pilot round rules to all participants (5 minutes)
- Participants write their assessments all at the same time regardless of what subject they are taking (50 minutes)
- Invigilators walk around and collect in the assessments (5 minutes)
Assessments must be scanned and sent back to the DYT team via our email (admin@international-dyt.org) with the subject line "[SCHOOL NAME] - Pilot Round". This must be done before 16:00 CET on Saturday the 26th of October, 2024. Each scanned assessment must include the full paper, including the cover page.
Who
All MYP5, Pre-IB, first-year IB DP, and second-year IB DP students can join DYT. IB DP students must be studying the full IB diploma to be eligible to join DYT. This means that students must be taking at least six IB classes and/or must be completing any of the core requirements (CAS, EE, TOK). Participants also have to be at least 15 years old by Monday 21st of October 2024 to join DYT. There is no limit for the amount of students that can register for DYT.
Unfortunately, students cannot sign up independently. If a school has not registered for DYT, no students from that school are allowed to join. If you are an independent student who wants to join, we recommend that you contact your IB coordinator and encourage them to sign up your school.
All assessments are created by DYT organisers, of which are then checked over and reviewed by IB teachers. All assessments are also marked by DYT organisers and IB teachers.
